Several employees of a unit of Foxconn India, which manufactures iPhones for Apple, were hospitalized Saturday after food poisoning, said a source familiar with the matter.
The food poisoning occurred earlier this week in Foxconn dormitories, where the majority of its staff live, a second source said. Much of the Taiwanese manufacturer’s workforce is made up of women.
It was not immediately clear how many workers are seriously ill and whether the incident would disrupt production at the Sriperumbudur factory, which is on the outskirts of the southern city of Chennai.
Foxconn did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
