VidOvation today announced that it has expanded its capabilities for live video distribution networks and cloud and edge computing. In addition, the company is rolling out carrier-agnostic e-SIMs with domestic and global support for 3G, 4G LTE and 5G mobile networks.

VidOvation’s live video transport, distribution and streaming services now take full advantage of the high-quality and robust transport services of AWS Elemental MediaConnect, which offers the reliability and security of satellite and fiber combined with the flexibility, agility and cost-effectiveness of IP-based networks. AWS Elemental MediaConnect enables mission-critical live video workflows at a fraction of the time and cost of satellite or fiber services.

VidOvation also has the AVIWEST Cloud StreamHub fully integrated with AWS Cloud and MediaConnect. The StreamHub bound cellular receiver, decoder, transcoder, and streaming allows hub users to receive transmissions from various types of field encoders and transmitters, enabling fast, easy, and simultaneous sharing of high-quality live content with multiple affiliates or other broadcasting facilities. This integration is made possible by the StreamHub software with support for up to 16 IP inputs and 16 IP outputs that support IP protocols such as SRT, NDI, RTMP, TS over IP, HLS and others. In addition, StreamHub is vendor-independent and universally compatible with third-party encoders and transmitters.

“AWS Elemental MediaConnect is already widely used by broadcast, media and production companies for the contribution and distribution of live television,” said Jim Jachetta, executive vice president and chief technology officer, VidOvation. “And with our cloud integration, workflows are simplified by eliminating the need for a physically bound cellular receive server under master control; instead, an existing generic SRT IRD/decoder is used to receive the live video feed from the cloud. This enables faster and cheaper implementations of remote live productions and home productions.”

To further simplify remote manufacturing, VidOvation has rolled out carrier-agnostic domestic and global e-SIMs, providing simple, intelligent, and global connectivity for the company’s entire family of tethered mobile and streaming products. Using a Multi-IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) technology, VidOvation merges regional and local mobile connectivity. The advanced e-SIM cards are device agnostic and mobile carrier agnostic, and they require no configuration.

The flagship AVIWEST PRO380, equipped with VidOvation e-SIMs, as well as other tethered cellular transmitters, can automatically connect its eight cellular modems to top local cellular networks such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. Customers no longer need to exchange their SIM card for another carrier if a specific carrier is not available in a certain area or region. Instead, the VidOvation e-SIMs automatically switch to the best available mobile network in real time. VidOvation offers mobile connectivity in more than 120 countries around the world.

“Many customers are already taking advantage of VidOvation’s carrier-agnostic e-SIMs,” says Jachetta. “Users no longer have to fiddle with changing SIM cards. These SIM cards automatically connect to the best available mobile network in all locations, both nationally and globally.”
