UNITAMS continues to support the Sudanese Police to promote gender equality and strengthen the effectiveness of the police response to combat sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) as a critical protection issue through strategic dialogue, trainings and collaboration with other United Nations. organizations, funds, programs and partners.

UNITAMS has been mandated by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2579 (2021) to assist in peacebuilding, protection of civilians and the rule of law; with the aim of supporting the strengthening of the protective environment in conflict or post-conflict areas, as well as supporting institutional reforms and the promotion and protection of human rights.
