Telegram Update 8.2 brings fast scrolling; Add date bar, calendar view for shared media, admin control, etc.

Telegram is rolling out a new update that includes several features to make the app easier to use. These include a new date bar and calendar for the Shared Media page on the iOS app. The newly launched date bar on the side of the Shared Media page will allow users to jump between days and months and find the images / videos they are looking for much faster. The latest update to the instant messaging platform also gives admins more control over who can join and view the chat with new admin approval settings. Additionally, Telegram’s update adds global chat themes and new interactive emojis. Telegram for iOS will now also show transit time for shared locations.

The arrival of the new update was announced to Telegram iOS users on Wednesday, November 3 via a blog post that includes details on how to use them. As mentioned, the update added a date bar to the side of the Shared Media page that shows all of the photos, videos, files, and music that have been shared in a particular chat – individual or in groups. Users can swipe up and down to quickly scroll through shared media with this. What’s more, users can even pinch to zoom in and out for an enhanced browsing experience.

The Shared Media page gets a new calendar view that allows Telegram users to find media from a specific date. You can also filter shared media by photos or videos or both. You can access it by tapping on the chat header, then scrolling down and clicking on the menu icon.

The latest update has a preview option for admins. When a user opens an invite link with admin approval enabled, they will see a button to submit a join request that admins can manage from a new bar at the top of the chat. With this, Telegram group admins can view a candidate’s public profile photos and bio before approving or rejecting their application. Additionally, admins can give names to their invite links for better organization.

All eight new chat topics that Telegram announced in the previous update are now reaching iOS devices. Each of the new themes features day and night mode, an animated background, and gradient message bubbles. It will soon be available for Android users.

Shared locations on iOS will now show transit time with the new update. By tapping on a shared location on the chat, users can see the travel time to get there on foot, by car, or by public transport.

Telegram’s new update enables automatic conversion of text typed in the message bar to caption when a user attaches media. Cloud Drafts allow users to type the message on the computer, then attach the phone photo and send it all together.

Users will also receive new interactive emojis with full screen effects with the new update. Additionally, Telegram’s settings for iOS have been redesigned to match the style of iOS 15.
