PS5 restocking: Sony opens registrations to buy direct from PlayStation

Almost a year after the launch of the PlayStation 5, it’s nearly impossible to buy a console without jumping through a few hoops. And with the supply and shipping issues still plaguing consumers, getting their hands on a PS5 this holiday season will continue to be a challenge. Fortunately, Sony is offering a bit of relief, allowing future PS5 owners to sign up for the option of purchasing a new console directly from the company.

According to Sony’s console order reservation page, the only prerequisite for registration is a PlayStation Network ID. Sony says it will contact registrants via email, if selected, with the option to purchase a PS5 starting in November.

Similar to the PS5 pre-order program launched by Sony in 2020, the selection criteria are “based on past interests and PlayStation activities”. And like this system, selected customers can only purchase one console and a limited number of accessories. Each invitation is limited to:

  • 1 PS5 console or 1 PS5 digital edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers (Bundles, Cosmic Red or Midnight Black)
  • 3 DualSense wireless controllers (White)
  • 1 PS5 multimedia remote control
  • 1 Pulse 3D wireless headphones

Of course, being selected to buy a Sony PlayStation 5 doesn’t actually guarantee you’ll get one. If selected, Sony says you’ll have a window set to grab the thing and availability is, understandably, limited.
