New Block Scale Intel ASIC Technology Unveiled With 580 GH/s Blockchain Hash Rates

Compute requirements for blockchains using proof-of-work consensus tools are rapidly increasing due to its resilience and ability to scale without sacrificing decentralization. This increasing amount of computing power requires a huge amount of energy, necessitating new technologies that can deliver the required capacity in a more energy-efficient manner, while also being stable enough to reduce long-term e-waste conditions.

For proof-of-work algorithms consistent with ASIC-based systems and SHA-256 hashing, the Intel Blockscale ASIC provides the energy efficiency and compute power needed to achieve scalability and durability. Intel will be able to offer it in size without compromising the stock of new CPUs or GPUs.

Some key features for the Intel Blockscale ASIC are:

  • Dedicated Secure Hash Algorithm-256 (SHA-256) ASIC processor.
  • Up to 580 GH/s hash rate in operation and 26 J/TH energy efficiency.
  • On-chip temperature and voltage sensing capabilities.
  • Support for up to 256 integrated circuits per chain.
  • Reference hardware design and software stack to jump-start customers’ system development.

Intel Blockscale ASIC customers will receive shipments beginning in the third quarter of 2022. Starting next year and going forward, Intel will partner with and provide future customers who convey the company’s sustainability ideals.
