North has been appointed by IT and business consultancy CGI under a five-year contract to support city council’s plans to transform the capital into one of the world’s leading smart cities.
Driven by CGI’s Smart City platform, North was selected by the company to provide the smart waste sensors and related connectivity.
The project will see North supply some 11,000 smart sensors to waste containers across the city. The advanced technology will enable “smart waste management” by detecting waste levels and predicting usage trends, allowing the council to optimize collection and manage routes more efficiently.
The IoT Scotland network will also be used to transmit data to other critical services to improve the Council’s digital vision. Alongside the waste project, the municipality will deploy a “digital proactive service” for social housing across the city, using the same network.
