Sunnking’s live electronics shredder has a new name after the company announced its first “Name the Shredder” contest winner.
Shreddie Van Halen won the most votes in the recycler’s online contest. The five finalist submissions garnered more than 1,700 votes in total.

Last month, Sunnking asked New Yorkers to submit their smartest names for their industrial electronic grinder. SUNY Brockport student Jessica Lisk won the competition. She was the fifth overall submission in February with Shreddie Van Halen.
Lisk will get a tour of the newly named Chipper and receive four tickets to Six Flags Darien Lake and a Sunnking Loot Bag.
After receiving more than 200 creative name submissions from Rochester and Buffalo in March, Sunnking staff and management reviewed the list and selected five finalists for public voting. Teams considered a variety of factors when selecting finalists, including creativity, uniqueness, and names that were easily identifiable and understood by a wide audience.
Sunnking’s electronic shredder destroys over 10 million pounds of recycled appliances each year. Since its launch in mid-August, Sunnking’s live shredder cam feed has been watched for more than 500 hours by people around the world.
