Facebook allows you to tag people, groups, and pages in your posts, comments, and photos so that you can notify those entities of their mention in your content. It’s easy to do and we’ll show you how.

What happens when you tag someone

When you tag someone, that entity is notified that they have been tagged in your post, comment, or photo. Your tagged text links to this entity on the Facebook platform.

Your tagged post will appear on the tagged entity’s timeline if they have disabled timeline review. When tagging on Facebook, be aware that you can only tag entities that have enabled this option in their privacy settings.

You can tag people, groups, and pages from your desktop and mobile device. The steps are pretty much the same for both types of devices.

Tag people, groups or pages on Facebook

To tag people, groups or pages in your posts or comments, you will use the same procedure. To mark entities on photos, the procedure differs slightly, as we will explain below.

Add a tag in a post or comment

To start tagging someone in your post or comment, start by clicking on the editable area of ​​your post or comment so you can enter some text.

Select a post or comment.

Place the cursor where you want to mention an entity. Then type the @ sign followed by the name of the entity to tag. For example, if you want to tag your friend Harryyou need to type the following and then choose the correct one Harry from the list.

Similarly, to tag a group or page, type the @ sign followed by the name of this group or this page. Then choose the appropriate item from the menu that opens.

Once you’re done tagging, go ahead and post your message, comment, or photo as you normally would. The tagged entity will then be notified of your content.

Add a tag to a photo

If you have a photo containing various entities, you can tag them to be part of your photo. Facebook lets you select the area of ​​your photo where you want to tag people, pages, or groups.

To do this, first open the photo you want to tag someone on Facebook.

When your photo opens in full screen, in the upper right corner, click on the “Tag Photo” icon.

To select "Tag the photo" in the upper right corner.

Now click on the area of ​​your photo where you want to tag someone. For example, if you have a photo with multiple people, click on the face of the person you are tagging.

A box will open allowing you to type the name of the entity to tag. Here, type the name of your friend, group or page you want to tag. Then select it from the menu.

Repeat this step to tag multiple entities in your photo.

Select an entity to tag.

When you’re done tagging people, at the bottom of your photo, click “Tagging done.”
