How to make Google your home page in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari

A quick and easy way to access Google in your web browsers is to make Google your home page. You can do this in browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, and we’ll show you how.

Your browser has a box that you can fill in with the URL of any site to make it your home page. You can set any region specific Google site (like Google UK) as your homepage if you prefer.

Make Google your homepage in Chrome on the desktop

In Chrome, you can make Google your home page so that it opens when you click on the home icon, which is next to the address bar. You can also launch Google when you open the Chrome browser. We’ll show you how to do both below.

Set Google as the homepage

For the home button to launch Google, then in the top right corner of Chrome, click on the three dots.

From the three-dot menu, select “Settings”.

In “Settings”, in the left sidebar, select “Appearance”.

To have Chrome open Google when you launch the browser, add Google to the Chrome start section.

To do this, in the top right corner of Chrome, click on the three dots and choose “Settings”.

To select "Settings" in the Chrome menu.

In “Settings”, in the left sidebar, select “On startup”.

To select "When the engine starts" in Settings.

An “On startup” section will appear on the right. Here, activate “Open a specific page or a set of pages”.

In the menu that expands, click on “Add a new page”.

Chrome will open a small “Add a new page” window. In this window, click on the “Site URL” field and enter the following URL. Then click on “Add”.

You are ready. Now when you launch Chrome, it will automatically launch the Google site.

Make Google your homepage in Chrome on mobile

You can only set a homepage in Chrome on Android. There is no option to do this in the iPhone and iPad versions of Chrome.

To set the home page, first open Chrome on your Android phone.

In the top right corner of Chrome, tap the three dots.

From the three-dot menu, select “Settings”.

Scroll down the “Settings” page to the “Advanced” section. Here, tap on “Home page”.

And that’s all. When you tap the home icon in Chrome, the Google site is loaded.

To set Google as the home page in Firefox, start by opening Firefox on your computer.

In the upper right corner of Firefox, click on the three horizontal lines.

In the Android version of Firefox, there is no way to set a home page. Instead, you can add Google to the list of top sites that appears on the first page of Firefox. On iPhone and iPad, you can set an appropriate home page in Firefox.

Launch Firefox on your phone. Tap the address bar at the top, type the following and hit enter:

When the Google site loads, in the upper right corner of Firefox, tap the three dots.

Set homepage on iPhone and iPad

Open Firefox on your iPhone or iPad. In the lower right corner, tap the three horizontal lines.

Make Google your homepage in Edge on the desktop

In Microsoft Edge, you can make the home button launch Google, and you can also make Google launch automatically when you open Edge. Let us show you how to do both.

Open Google when you click Home

To have the home button launch Google in Edge, first open Edge on your computer.

In the upper right corner of Edge, click the three dots.

Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of Edge.

From the three-dot menu, select “Settings”.

To select "Settings" in the Edge menu.

In the “Settings” window, in the left sidebar, click “Appearance”.

Click on "Appearance" in "Settings."

Scroll down the “Appearance” page to the “Select which buttons to display on the toolbar” section. In this section, activate the “Home button” option. Then, next to the toggle, click “Set Button URL”.

You will now specify which site the home button should take you to. In the “Home Button” section that opens, click on the “Enter URL” field and enter the following URL. Then click on “Save”.

And you have successfully set Google as the homepage in Edge on your computer. Click the home button next to the address bar whenever you want to visit Google.

Open Google when you launch Edge

To have Edge open Google when you launch the browser, set Google as the start page in Edge. To do this, first open Edge on your computer.

In the upper right corner of Edge, click on the three dots and choose “Settings.”

On the “Settings” page, in the left sidebar, click “Start, Home and New Tabs”.

Click on "Start, Home and New tabs" in "Settings."

To set or change the Edge home page on iPhone, iPad, or Android, start by opening Edge on your phone.

Set Google as the homepage on Safari

Unfortunately, Safari for iPhone and iPad does not have a specific “home page” function. It will open the last web page you opened or the start page. However, you can customize the start page to include a link to Google, change your default search engine to Google, or add a link to Google on your home screen and use it every time you want to launch Safari.

If you’re on a Mac, however, you can make Google your home page by first clicking Safari> Preferences, or by using the Command + keyboard shortcut, (comma). Then click on “General”.

In the “Home page” field, enter the following information:

Select the "General" tab and enter the Google address in the "Home page" field.

You can also make sure that “New window opened with” and “New tabs opened with” are set to “Home page”.
