Here’s how to mirror the main screen to the rear screen of the Mi 11 Ultra

To date, the Mi 11 Ultra is Xiaomi’s only smartphone with a secondary display on the rear camera island. The Chinese OEM opted for a 1.1-inch AMOLED display, which you can use to see the time, battery level, some notifications, and even control your music. Essentially, it’s practically the display of a Mi Band on the back of the phone. However, MIUI does not offer so many customization options for the outdoor display. Xiaomi doesn’t even allow you to access all installed apps on the secondary display, which is a real shame. To fix this, XDA member GuyWithRootedPhone has come up with Mirror2RearUltra – an app that basically mirrors the content of your Mi 11 Ultra’s main screen to the rear display panel.

The developer, who also goes through tpkarras on GitHub, published the Mirror2RearUltra app as a one-stop solution to get the most out of the Mi 11 Ultra’s secondary display. The app, however, lacks a fancy user interface. All you get is a quick new tile after installation. As soon as you tap on the tile named “Mirror to back screen”, the app starts mirroring the content of the main screen to the secondary screen. Notably, you may need to tap the back screen afterwards to wake it up.

To be precise, the app is just a proof of concept at the moment. It still needs a little polish here and there. The recording/streaming confirmation screen, for example, will appear on the rear screen of the Mi 11 Ultra on certain occasions. There are also a few reported issues related to brightness and rotation on the secondary screen, but the developer is working on fixing these issues. For any app developers reading this, Mirror2RearUltra is open source, so you can check out the codebase, submit new patches, or just compile the app yourself.

Due to the fact that MIUI has a very aggressive battery management design, it tends to abruptly close background apps. Therefore, you may find that Mirror2RearUltra stops working after some time. In order to let it run in the background, make sure to turn off MIUI Power Saver for this app.
