Half of the UK’s internet is down, including Roblox, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok
It appears that a number of major web-based services are experiencing intermittent outages in the UK. Services like Instagram, TikTok, Zoom and many more are not available to some.
The problems started showing up around 10:15am UK time as the services were failing. I was able to get some websites to load by switching DNS servers away from Google’s 184.108.40.206 and using CloudFlare’s 220.127.116.11, but now I just have different services and websites that don’t work.
If you’re suffering, the only solution probably seems to be time – and waiting for what’s broken to be fixed. Interestingly, the same services seem to work fine elsewhere, suggesting that this is an issue specific to UK infrastructure. Virgin Media, a major UK internet provider, is also said to be experiencing problems, although it’s not clear at this time whether that’s a symptom or a cause. I’d check Virgin Media’s service status page if I could get it to load!
An up-to-date list of services reported to be affected by Downdetector includes:”
- virgin media
- Blizzard Battle.net
- and more.
This isn’t the first time a number of services have failed at once, but it’s unusual for a problem like this to only affect one part of the world. We keep our ears to the ground – and hope this post gets published! — and hopefully we’ll all be doomscrolling and posting pics of our lunch soon enough. After all, the best iPhone is an iPhone that can actually connect to the Internet. Who knows?
