GBI asks for help identifying a hiker





The Georgia Bureau of Investigation needs the public’s help in identifying a deceased Springer Mountain hiker.

The GBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying a deceased man believed to be a hiker on Springer Mountain found on January 21, 2022. The man was found specifically off the Benton MacKaye Trail, part of the Appalachian Trail in the county by Fannin. Attached is a forensic artist’s rendering of the man.

The man was wearing a small gray t-shirt, a gray fleece long-sleeved shirt, beige Wrangler size 30×32 cargo pants, gray wool socks and Keen size 10.5 hiking boots ( Photo). The man had in his possession a black Thermal-FR brand fleece zip-up sweater (pictured), a dark gray Champion-branded zip-up fleece (pictured), a black Uline skullcap with rechargeable lamp attachment (pictured) and a small black folding shovel (photo).

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information about someone matching this description should contact the GBI.
