Disney+ Hotstar April 2022: Kaun Pravin Tambe?, Death on the Nile, IPL, and More





Disney+ Hotstar has announced a slate of 33 titles that will be released on its platform in April 2022. We already know some of them, including the Hindi sports biopic directed by Shreyas Talpade Kaun Pravin Tambe? released April 1. Later in April, Disney+ Hotstar will unveil a new Tamil-language police boot camp drama in Taanakkaran, with Lal and Anjali Nair leading the cast. There will also be a Tami-language series in April, with coming-of-age Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal returning to school with a second season – only on Disney+ Hotstar. And we’ll also have a prequel to Rupali Ganguly’s Anupamaa that brings back the original cast, with Sarita Joshi in a central role. Anupamaa: Namaste America launches April 25 on Disney+ Hotstar.

Internationally, the biggest new title on Disney+ Hotstar in April 2022 is the return of MasterChef Australia for its 14th season – it begins April 19, a day after its Australian premiere. While Disney+ Hotstar hasn’t announced any new titles from FX, ABC, or HBO for April 2022, based on what we’ve seen in the past, I’m expecting at least three. Bill Hader’s hitman and actor returns in barry season 3, scheduled for April 25 on Disney+ Hotstar. Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC is set to begin its fourth season on April 20 on Disney+ Hotstar. And finally, Robin Thede & Co. returns in A Black Lady Sketch Show, with the third season set to debut April 8 on Disney+ Hotstar.

If you’re looking for new movies, Better Nate Than Ever – April 1 – stars a 13-year-old who escapes to New York with Broadway dreams and gets help from his aunt (Lisa Kudrow). And in the suspense thriller No Exit, a young woman stranded in a blizzard tries to figure out the kidnapper after coming across an abducted girl in the parking lot. No Exit premieres April 15 on Disney+ Hotstar.

Several films are also making their streaming premiere in April 2022. The remake of Guillermo del Toro’s neo-noir psychological thriller and Oscar-nominated Best Picture Nightmare Alley is out now — available April 1 — on Disney+ Hotstar. A week later, on April 8, we’ll get the Kingsman World War I prequel The King’s Man, starring Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou, and Charles Dance. And then a week after that, on April 15, Kenneth Branagh’s second Hercule Poirot film, Death on the Nile – which also stars Gal Gadot and Ali Fazal – rolls onto Disney+ Hotstar in India.

Disney+ Hotstar will also be dropping a bunch of nature documentaries thanks to Earth Day on April 22. Explorer: The Last Tepui, elite mountaineer Alex Honnold (Free Solo) attempts to scale a steep 1,000ft cliff with a climbing team. Catherine Keener tells Polar bear, the story of a new mother who navigates motherhood in an increasingly difficult world for polar bears. The documentary will be accompanied by a behind-the-scenes documentary from Bear Witness, where you can watch the filmmakers’ journey. And with The Biggest Little Farm: The Return, Nat Geo returns to farmers John and Molly Chester whose work was already turned into an award-winning docu in 2018. This one shows how they transformed their farm in 10 years.

And in what isn’t an Earth Day launch, the intimate educational documentary series Sketchbook — out April 27 on Disney+ Hotstar — takes us to desks and into the lives of talented artists and animators.

Those who love the world of Ice Age can return to it on April 13 with Ice Age: Scrat Tales, a series of six animated shorts featuring the hapless saber-toothed squirrel as he navigates fatherhood with Baby. Scrat.

As always, there are also plenty of sports on Disney+ Hotstar in April 2022. The 2022 edition of the biggest Twenty20 Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament continues throughout the month. Commentary is available in 8 languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bangla, Malayalam and Marathi. On April 3, Australia will face England in the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Final in the New Zealand capital. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa concludes with a two-test series which kicked off on April 1.

Beyond cricket, matches of the most popular domestic football league, the Premier League, will be shown in April on Disney+ Hotstar. The men’s and women’s field hockey editions of the FIH Pro League 2022 also take place throughout the month. And finally, Formula 1 will travel to Australia for its third Grand Prix of the 2022 season on April 10, while Formula E is expected in Rome on April 9, also for its third “ePrix” of the season.
