STATE – The Virginia Department of Social Services would like to remind residents of Virginia that the deadline for its winter fuel assistance program is fast approaching.
The deadline for Virginia residents to apply for the program is Friday, November 12.
The Low Income Home Energy Use Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a program offered to residents who achieve a certain income / household size ratio and / or participate or have family members who receive other benefit programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Social Security Income. (SSI) and Temporary cash assistance for families with minor children (TANF).
According to the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) website, households must have an expense for heating or cooling and gross monthly income must not exceed 150% of the federal poverty line.
A James City County Facebook post notes that this assistance can be used for late fees, connection fees, and restarting an oven.
