Clubhouse begins testing an in-room gaming feature – TechCrunch

Clubhouse is testing a new in-room gaming feature on iOS and Android devices, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Tuesday. As part of the initial launch, the app is rolling out a game called “Wild Cards,” which features a series of questions designed to stimulate conversation and help people get to know each other better. The game is currently only available in English.

To start a game on Clubhouse, you must click on the “+ Rooms” button, then select the “Games” option. You will then be dropped off at a social room where you can invite friends to play with you. Once everyone is in the room, you can click “Start Game” to start playing.

Clubhouse has provided a list of questions that may be asked during the game. For example, you may be asked to present your best idea for a movie or series in 60 seconds. Or, you may be asked to try to find a movie the whole group likes in three minutes or less. Other questions might ask you to share the last five things in your search history or explain what kind of dog matches your personality.

Live audio has grown in popularity amid the pandemic as people around the world have been confined to their homes. But, as restrictions have been lifted for the most part globally and in-person events have returned, Clubhouse may seek to build user loyalty by launching new features not currently offered by other social audio products, such as than Twitter Spaces.

The new gaming feature comes as Clubhouse recently added text chat functionality to its voice rooms that resembles what people might see on YouTube or Twitch. Room chat is an optional feature, so anyone chatting on Clubhouse can enable the option when they open a room. The new option could be a way for mic-shy people to get in on the action in audio rooms without having to speak.
