Cat lying on windowsill in ‘weirdest sleeping position’ delights the internet

An adorable photo of a cat falling asleep on a windowsill has melted hearts online.

The photo, which can be seen here, was shared on Sunday on the popular Reddit forum r/cats now has more than 32,000 votes and hundreds of enthusiastic comments.

Posted by user rosso2099 with the caption “My boy Eddie is sleeping” the beautiful photo shows Eddie the cat fast asleep with his front legs and head on a windowsill and hind legs underneath.

Eddie lives in Lincolnshire, UK with his owners, who told: news week†[This is] the first time we see him sleeping like this, but we’ve only had him and his brother for 3 weeks.”

As any cat owner will tell you, our feline friends especially love their nap. In fact, it’s not uncommon for adult cats to be able to sleep about 16 hours a day, a number that often increases as they get older.

Cats are crepuscular, meaning they are most active during dawn and dusk — other animals in this category include deer, skunks, opossums, and rabbits.

Eddie the cat sleeps wonderfully on the window and has excited internet users. One Redditor wrote: “He fell asleep while daydreaming about catching a bird or a squirrel.” Another said: “Just tucked away.”

The cat’s sleep pattern is a little different from ours. A 1973 study reported that cats slept about 79 of every 104 minutes. But unlike humans who usually sleep in one long stint at night, the cat’s sleep schedule is governed by more frequent short bursts of rest.

Our feline friends aren’t the only ones who enjoy a nap, though. A 2009 study by the Pew Research Center found that 34 percent of adults in the US take a nap on a typical day.

The cat’s unusual sleeping position by the window brought Redditors great joy. One commenter said: “I’ve never seen a cat sleep on multiple levels like this! They usually choose one surface or the other, he enjoys the smooth windowsill and the soft sofa at the same time.” Another wrote, “Weirdest sleeping position I’ve seen yet.”

“We all noticed how cute he looked,” the poster reads rosso2099. “We think the viral response is a bit of crackers.”

“That’s just too precious,” one commenter wrote. Another user said, “Looks like he’s on duty at the local drive-thru on a quiet day.”

Earlier this March, the cute sleeping position of a cat in a man’s coat was also a joy to the internet.
