In the adorable video, which is believed to have been first shared by TikTok user 1361110905china, the cat crawls into the little pumpkin – chews through the skin and eats the pulp inside.
The video has excited internet users who noticed the adorable noises made as the cat tucks into the snack. Viewers of the viral video have been sharing the weird things their cats like to eat ever since.
“Cats are just weird, man. Mine is going crazy over boiled potatoes,” wrote one commenter on the Reddit post. Another said: “My old cat used to eat pumpkin scraps when we made it for dinner. Now it all makes sense.”
Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they depend on nutrients found only in animal products. Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine explains that cats have evolved as hunters that consume prey containing high amounts of protein, moderate amounts of fat, and minimal amount of carbohydrates.
While cats may enjoy some non-conventional snacks, it’s important to know which foods your cat should never eat. Explained here, the 25-item list includes alcohol, citrus, and onions. Anyone who suspects that their pet has ingested harmful food should record the amount consumed and contact their veterinarian or the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Animal Poison Control Center at 1-888-426-4435.
Also known as acorn squash, the kabocha looks a lot like a miniature squash. A dark-skinned Japanese variety of winter squash, it has a sweet yellow-orange flesh inside. The ASPCA notes that the pumpkin, which is similar to squash and zucchini, is not toxic to dogs, cats and horses.
“That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages. I love the growl while he’s chewing,” said one viewer of the video.
“My cat makes the same noise for chicken nuggets,” said one Redditor, “Mine is crazy about olives,” said another.
More cat owners shared stories of their cats enjoying bananas, eggs, and even bread.
“My old cat was a garbage collector for people,” said one commenter, “He ate EVERYTHING you put in front of him. After I finished eating, I just put my plate on the floor and let him go to town.”
