AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Zen3 processor has finally been tested in games

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D tested in 1080p and 720p gaming

We have just been informed by XanxoGaming, which was the first to publish independent test results of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, that they have just completed their gaming tests.

Here is a reminder that the media is not under review embargo, which lifts in 2 days. They were able to purchase the processor on the retail market, but they did not specify how much it cost in Peru (where it was purchased). Officially, it launches at $449, which is around $120-140 less than the Core i9-12900K MSRP for 1K units.

The website put 5800X3D against the Alder Lake system using the same type of memory: DDR4-3200 CL14. These are clearly not ideal specs for a high-end system, whether powered by the Zen3 or Alder Lake architecture, but at least it’s consistent from test to test. Also, gaming testing is done using GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition, so no more comparison between different GPU models.

XanxoGaming does a CPU gaming test, so resolutions like 1080p or even 720p are used. End users are unlikely to use such resolutions, but it’s the best way to demonstrate the CPU’s gaming performance.

Overall, according to these 1080p tests, the two processors seem to be on par. The site notes that in three games: FFXV, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3, the performance stands out, it is up to 29% in FFXV.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the company’s latest effort to secure a user base before moving to the next-gen AM5 platform. It doesn’t look like AMD is planning any SKUs with 3D V-Cache and more than 8 cores, which is a shame, but for gamers, especially those who still have 300/400 series motherboards, it might be a good idea to make the latest switch, if of course a compatible BIOS is available.

Although we have obtained permission to share all results, we have only published a few 1080p tests. If you’re wondering how the 5800X3D performs in more games and at 720p resolution, be sure to check out the link below.
