In November 2019, Valve shocked the world by announcing Half-life: Alyx, an interquel based on virtual reality located between the first two Half-life Games. Half-Life: Alyx must be experienced by all VR owners
Call Allyx a VR killer app isn’t an understatement either. The game learned from the years of the games that came before it, so Allyx is a collection of VR best practices. All weapons and items work differently, but are intuitive to use both in combat and in environmental interactions. The variety of enemies is low, but the game continues to throw new scenarios to the player that need to be approached in different ways. The ambience of the game is also excellent, always reaching the tone it is aiming for.
This is all great for any game, but wouldn’t Half-life: Alyx far from the aforementioned “best practices” in VR. Players can choose to move around the environment with just about any type of movement. The game is designed with this in mind, and there are plenty of visual settings available to ensure players can be as comfortable as possible. There are even settings available to help streamers monitor their chats. Half-life: Alyx is an acclaimed game, and it could be the title that truly unites and expands the VR community with a slightly larger version.
